Dahmestadt – Discover the BER Airport Region, the pulsating economic engine in the heart of Europe.

The Regional Growth Core

The broadcasting city of Königs Wusterhausen, the airport municipality of Schönefeld, and the university town of Wildau are shaping the future around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) based on decades of close cooperation. Under the structuring umbrella brand “Dahmestadt”, this forward-looking region is expanding—characterized by abundant green spaces and waterways, modern infrastructure, and digitalization.

The marketing name “Dahmestadt” was established in 2021 as part of a potential study for the northern part of the Dahme-Spreewald district. Subsequent analyses on regional mobility have already delivered a concept for a trackless tramway that will directly connect all three partners. Further in-depth thematic studies are planned.

Economy: The Prospering Heart of Europe

The Dahme-Spreewald district is one of the fastest-growing economic regions among Germany’s eastern federal states—led by “Dahmestadt” in the north. Located directly on the Berlin city border adjacent to BER Airport Berlin, a premier hub for high-tech production, R&D, and smart services has emerged, where more than 2,000 highly qualified professionals from Germany and abroad are shaping the future.

Here, 130 years of industrial history in Wildau meet over 80 startups across four technology centers. Working alongside the Port of Königs Wusterhausen and major projects like the DESY Gamma-Ray Observatory and the 130-hectare Funkerberg Technology Park, regional growth is being accelerated sustainably. Find out more at the Dahme-Spreewald Economic Development Agency (WFG).
